OMG!😱 I freaking loved this story. 🥰 This is just the kind of story that is absolutely why I have one of the fastest one-click clicker fingers in the south. If Meagan Brandy writes I can almost guaran-damn-tee that It for sure is gonna be my jam. Crew and Davis just DID IT FOR ME! Off the charts explosive of course, but this kept just throwing my feels in a whirlwind. I wasn’t expecting that. I’m so used to the arrogant alpha holes in MB’s books that the broken bad boy trying to overcome the past really put a hurtin’ on this gal’s ticker. He melted me, made me swoon, made me pant. Everything about him just worked for me.
Davis was as sweet as candy and I loved how she felt about Crew. She was quirky and funny. 💗 Beyond beautiful both inside and out but with this innocence and radiance ☀️that people are drawn to. She truly had no clue of the attention she captured from the men around her. Probably partly because as long as she could remember she could only see one and one only and that was, Crew Taylor. After he left three years ago with no contact she decided that she had a issue that needed taken care of and he was the one she needed to take care of it. I am absolutely destroyed at the moment. This book gutted me. I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to get when I started. As this is A- my first read by this author so I’m unfamiliar with her style, which I am discovering is a tragedy in itself because OMG where has Author Brit Benson been in my life the last few years?! And B- because other than the blurb that TBH I read a while back when I signed up to read this, I went in blind not really knowing too much of what to expect. Which turned out to be the way to go anyway.
Blind is best y’all. My recommended way to go, always. Now, I had my assumptions based upon said blurb, but… You know what they say about assumptions and all! Blurb had me thinking “ okay, this is going to be the whole “good girl falls for an anti-hero that’s going to grow on us.” and I can totally get on board with a good ‘ol enemies to lovers any day of the week and twice on Sunday’s. I mean it was an enemies to lovers, and this book does take place in high school, but these were anything but your typical high school sweethearts. This book was unlike ANYTHING I have ever read. Original storyline with phenomenally written, flawed characters gave us an engaging and gripping story. A gritty and realness that is sure to leave you emotionally raw long after the cliffy at the end leaves you breathless. I know it did me.
From the very beginning I fell for Macon hook, line, and sinker. He’s so tantalizingly toxic, and I should be ashamed that I’m so twisted because I die harder for the toxic ones. But I’m not even a little ashamed. Yes, he was definitely cruel at times, he was messed up, he was for sure trouble with a capital T. But he was also misunderstood, he was damaged, he was broken, self destructive, hurt, and he was so much more than what people saw him for. It wasn’t just the way people saw him, it was the way he saw himself.
He just made me feel everything. I wanted to simultaneously hit him upside his head to knock some sense into him and pull him to me and just hug him and heal all his hurts. He broke my heart, he melted my heart, he made me hot. Holy Hot Hell 🔥🌶🔥🌶 did he ever make me hot. The ones with the bad egg rep y’all, I’m telling you. They just do it for me. What is wrong with me? In real life my hubby is as straight-laced as they come. Lol That’s probably why I like my fictional fellas fully fubar’d! (Not completely. I do want him redeemable)
Lennon is amazing. She’s got a heart of gold, she is who she is and she’s comfortable with herself. She is creative, a rule follower, and selfless friend. Honestly she gets the short end of the stick sometimes because with most of the people in her life she doesn’t stand up for herself…except with Macon. He seems to be the person in the world who can get her the most fired up. The way they verbally spar. He brings out this lively feisty spirited side to her that no one else sees. I can feel how she finds herself struggling with her feelings for him, it practically jumps off the pages. She is at war with everything. The things he does, the way he treats her, the things others have to say about the kind of person he is. It all weighs heavily on her mind.
But things start to happen and she finds herself around him more and more and she sees glimpses that there is so much more to him. All of these discoveries are breaking down her walls. However the more walls they tear down, the more life seems to throw back up in their way. I just connected with her character so deeply. The writer did such an amazing job I was so invested and emotional I had to take moments and remind myself that I wasn’t actually there. I didn’t need to throw down with anyone in real life to stand up for some injustice that was being done to my girl. I mean I could chuck my kindle, and almost did several times. I could cry, which I absolutely did. A lot. I could cuss, did that as well. But at the end of that chapter I pressed on. Until press on I could no more…and now we wait.
My angsty frustration level is at an all time high. The tension between them is palpable. I live for the kind of rush this book was giving me. This book is a catastrophic collision of every emotion under the sun. Past trauma, damaged hearts, addiction, forbidden love, secrets, mistakes, lies and betrayal rips through their lives. Told in dual alternating POV, book one in the Next Live Duet will leave you grasping the edge of your seat, tears in your eyes, wanting to IM the author immediately to demand book two, before I die of impatience. Can one actually die of impatience? I feel like I just might. But in all actuality this book is fantastic. While it is full of sensitive content. It is beautifully written, the parallels to real life make it tragically devastating especially given where it has left us at this point. I am also filled with a smidge of hope. Deep in my core I believe in true love and I believe these two are inevitable soul mates. But I think they ( and us readers) will be put through a gut-wrenching journey, the likes of one which we won’t recover from immediately( because these characters have already captured our hearts.)

💭Overall Thoughts~ I am so happy I took a chance on this book and this new to me author as it will most definitely go down as one of my TOP READS of 2022! My only regret is that I am just now discovering this author’s work. I plan to quickly devour as much of her back list ASAP. I will be counting down the days until book two. I’m probably not ready for what Ms. Benson is going to do to my poor heart. But I can’t survive without knowing where we are going from here. I highly recommend EVERYONE take a chance on this author and The Love Of My Next Life. As for me… I will never be the same.

This enemies to lovers, guardian/ward, principal/student story may be slow burn but it sure sucks you in from the very first sentence until the last. It will have you hanging on every single word as you run the gamut of feels in this angsty and emotional tale.
From the day Poe Blyton met her new guardian, Alaric Rule Marshall she has hated him. He is cruel and heartless. He sent her away from the boy she loved to St. Mary’s school after all. Now he has taken a position as the new principal and held up her graduation for the summer. She doesn’t understand why he hates her so much that he wants to make heer as miserable as possible but she is determined to find out. I love Poe’s sassiness and badassiness. Really I just love her overall vibe. She is so loving and caring with her friends. She is talented and generous. She guarded because of her past and once you start learning more about her you can’t help but want her to have everything amazing life has to offer. She deserves the best kind of book HEA there is.
Alaric is so aloof and glacial at times. I just had to know what happened to make him this way. I really liked how the story unfolded and we got more and more of the history behind why he is the way he is and holy cow… my poor heart.
Ms. Kent put me through so many stages of feelings with this book. I would be sad for Poe and Alaric’s characters, then giddy from their banter, then frustrated, then devastated, and then panting because it was so flipping hot. I felt all the feels. I could not put it down. I devoured every single word. This story has a dual POV. We get more chapters from Poe’s POV But I love that we get some chapters from Alaric’s too. I really like getting to be in their heads while they are struggling with developing feelings for one another and what to do or not do with those feelings.
The banter in this book was all kinds of sinful and mesmerizing. Alaric may have been struggling to come to terms with how wrong his feelings for her were but when he lost control of his mouth… GOOD GAWD!! 😳 He’s dirty mouthed AF and I’m here for every single filthy word. When they finally did “throw down” it was hotter than late July down here in my neck of the woods. (Georgia aka. The Dirty Dirty South) 🔥🥵🔥

Second Chance Love is an amazingly steamy, second chance story of inevitable love. It’s everything sinful and delicious about a forbidden, brothers best-friends, enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine romance. Caleb and Evie’s story has it all. A sweet yet sassy and sexy heroine, adorable kiddos, and the frustratingly gorgeous hero. Who makes you want to pull your hair out one minute and then pull your clothes off the next!
This book is full of so much yummy tension and steamy goodness you will Lose.Your.Mind!! I promise there are many more things happening that will keep you engaged and plowing right on through this book because you just got to know what happens. I read it in less than a day. I’m leaving out many more details as I wouldn’t dare spoil it because it’s too good and I recommend this book for everyone because it hits on so many great tropes.
Evie has loved Caleb since she was nineteen years old. Four years later He broke her heart tainting what should have been a special night for her. He made the night unforgettable all right. Years later Caleb wants to repair the damage he did and claim what he has always known is his. The one that got away. But will Evie forgive Caleb for destroying her heart? Business may have brought them together but will she truly be able to resist the man who has always owned her heart? Things are definitely complicated because it’s more than just Evie and Caleb that are impacted if a relationship were to happen between the two of them.
Caleb has always had deep feelings for Evie but he has never really voiced that to her. He prioritizes protecting her brother, his best friend Jax, from finding out about her, leaving her constantly feeling like a dirty little secret. After he makes a life changing mistake he hurts Evie in an unbearable and unforgivable way. This book was number four in the Second Chance series. It is a standalone and offers dual POV. (My Favorite) I am really enjoying this series and cannot wait for the next book in this series. I love Author M. Robinson’s writing style. This story had the perfect blend of serious moments, funny moments, frustration filled moments, super steamy moments and heart melting moments. I couldn’t get enough of their banter. It’s the kind my dreams are made of.
Get Ready To Cry Y’all!! Only Rivals, book one in the Only You series and a second generation spin off of the Blue Beech and Twisted Fox series’ is an enemies to lovers, second chance, love after loss romance. With plenty of angst, steam, and all the feels.
Only Rivals is the journey of Jax and Amelia. His ex… err, almost ex? However the cookie crumbles. His recently dead best friend’s fiancée. This complex dynamic plays such an intricate part of the story. I promise it’s a lot less Jerry Springer and really emotional and engaging to read. Jax is so angry and his character is frustrating at times you want to just shake him but this big tough guy is struggling with some big emotions and as frustrated as I was with him I felt for him so badly too. I needed his vitriol to end though. The level of devastation I was feeling every time he was spewing words of hatred and blame at Amelia was really high. I was like I can’t take it anymore. PLEASEMake it stop!!
But Amelia. Holy Moly. I can’t even imagine. Any of it. But Ms. Ferrell was able to bring in the emotional lows that we needed to connect to Amelia’s character. To sympathize with her. To grieve, to process, to begin to heal right along with her. I really liked her journey. I will be honest my heart literally shattered at times with the hateful things Jax said to her. I was like how much more can one person possibly be broken? It was brutal to read. But that is what made it so much more rewarding when he finally had his awakening and turned his attitude around.
This definitely is steamy and has tension for days. They have plenty of what I call “ banter o’hate” back and forth. They have chemistry which is ready to strike as hot as their tempers when they get near each other. They both are suffering with so much hurt that it’s understandable they would have the ability to actually help each other heal. They have a shared history so in my opinion they seemed like they were always soulmates who just needed to fulfill another purpose. Maybe someone else needed them more for a bit. But in the end, inevitably those who are supposed to be will always find their way back to each other. 4.5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
