My Review

This is without a doubt the most emotionally raw story Erica Marselas has written to date. This story literally broke me, so many times over before I began to heal right along with Alex and June. My emotions were put through the wringer with this second chance, enemies to lovers, forced marriage story that had me pouring out all my tears. 😭 I was filled to the brim with excitement,  devastation, hopes for healing, love, and forgiveness. One of the things that fascinated me with this story was that It was SO different from anything else she had ever written before, proving that that there doesn’t seem to be ANYTHING she cannot write, and she absolutely CRUSHED IT!! 

Told in dual POV, which is my favorite, Alex and June’s story goes back and forth between the past when June was just nineteen years old and present time, five years later. We quickly learn that June is hiding devastatingly dark secrets and trauma. She has been suffering in silence for years, the only bright spots in her life being Alex, her bff Kathleen and their aunt Liz. Just when they were on the path to getting all they had ever wanted and being together, Alex and June lost everything they were just starting to build after one unforgivably tragic event forever altered the course of all of their lives. 😭😱😭

My heart just broke for June. GAH! The tears I cried. To go through all she had over and over, only to lose everything and be blamed for things that were never her fault. It was more than most anyone could have endured. I loved how somehow she was able to pick herself up by her bootstraps and begin to heal, proving she was so much stronger than even she could have ever guessed she had the capabilities to be. How somehow through the anger, hurt,and resentment she helped both Alex and herself heal and move forward together. 💔

Alex was always meant to be the great love of June’s life but I hated him as much as I loved him at times. Everytime he was nasty it broke me, but deep down I understood his misplaced anger. Alex and June were a collection of misunderstandings and that caused them to hurt each other over and over. I was hoping against all hope that they would both pull their heads out of their fannies and get it together. 

I was in awe with Erica’s ability to incorporate characters so much into the story without them actually being present in the scenes. You will understand that more when you read it. But they had such strong influences over Alex and June, both good and bad. I loved it. It made it both funny and shockingly emotional. Like they had someone watching over them that anticipated their steps WAY before they even knew what they were doing, and boy they needed that kick in the pants to get past the past. 😉

Erica did such a great job in June and Alex’s characters. While they are frustrating and flawed, on their own, together they were perfectly imperfect and there was something just so right in the world when they finally got their crap together. Like the heavens opened up and angels sang down.  

Now heed my warning if you have triggers!! This book deals with some heavy subject matter, some serious PTSD and past trauma. If you get through that though there is such a beautiful story at its core. A story of hope, healing, overcoming devastating trauma, and forgiving the hurts inflicted on you by the person you love most in the world. Filled with just the right blend of humorous, and steamy moments to balance the tear jerking and wanna chuck your kindle moments, this book will run the gamut of your emotions and you will love EVERY.SINGLE.SECOND!! 🤗🤗🤩🤩

🌪Cliffhanger Warning-🌪 NO CLIFFY! This HEA was perfect. It was fought so hard for and so deserved for these phenomenal characters.
