I am absolutely destroyed at the moment. This book gutted me. I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to get when I started. As this is A- my first read by this author so I’m unfamiliar with her style, which I am discovering is a tragedy in itself because OMG where has Author Brit Benson been in my life the last few years?! And B- because other than the blurb that TBH I read a while back when I signed up to read this, I went in blind not really knowing too much of what to expect. Which turned out to be the way to go anyway.

Blind is best y’all. My recommended way to go, always. Now, I had my assumptions based upon said blurb, but… You know what they say about assumptions and all! Blurb had me thinking “ okay, this is going to be the whole “good girl falls for an anti-hero that’s going to grow on us.” and I can totally get on board with a good ‘ol enemies to lovers any day of the week and twice on Sunday’s. I mean it was an enemies to lovers, and this book does take place in high school, but these were anything but your typical high school sweethearts. This book was unlike ANYTHING I have ever read. Original storyline with phenomenally written, flawed characters gave us an engaging and gripping story. A gritty and realness that is sure to leave you emotionally raw long after the cliffy at the end leaves you breathless. I know it did me.

From the very beginning I fell for Macon hook, line, and sinker. He’s so tantalizingly toxic, and I should be ashamed that I’m so twisted because I die harder for the toxic ones. But I’m not even a little ashamed. Yes, he was definitely cruel at times, he was messed up, he was for sure trouble with a capital T. But he was also misunderstood, he was damaged, he was broken, self destructive, hurt, and he was so much more than what people saw him for. It wasn’t just the way people saw him, it was the way he saw himself.

He just made me feel everything. I wanted to simultaneously hit him upside his head to knock some sense into him and pull him to me and just hug him and heal all his hurts. He broke my heart, he melted my heart, he made me hot. Holy Hot Hell 🔥🌶🔥🌶 did he ever make me hot. The ones with the bad egg rep y’all, I’m telling you. They just do it for me. What is wrong with me? In real life my hubby is as straight-laced as they come. Lol That’s probably why I like my fictional fellas fully fubar’d! (Not completely. I do want him redeemable)

Lennon is amazing. She’s got a heart of gold, she is who she is and she’s comfortable with herself. She is creative, a rule follower, and selfless friend. Honestly she gets the short end of the stick sometimes because with most of the people in her life she doesn’t stand up for herself…except with Macon. He seems to be the person in the world who can get her the most fired up. The way they verbally spar. He brings out this lively feisty spirited side to her that no one else sees. I can feel how she finds herself struggling with her feelings for him, it practically jumps off the pages. She is at war with everything. The things he does, the way he treats her, the things others have to say about the kind of person he is. It all weighs heavily on her mind.

But things start to happen and she finds herself around him more and more and she sees glimpses that there is so much more to him. All of these discoveries are breaking down her walls. However the more walls they tear down, the more life seems to throw back up in their way. I just connected with her character so deeply. The writer did such an amazing job I was so invested and emotional I had to take moments and remind myself that I wasn’t actually there. I didn’t need to throw down with anyone in real life to stand up for some injustice that was being done to my girl. I mean I could chuck my kindle, and almost did several times. I could cry, which I absolutely did. A lot. I could cuss, did that as well. But at the end of that chapter I pressed on. Until press on I could no more…and now we wait.

My angsty frustration level is at an all time high. The tension between them is palpable. I live for the kind of rush this book was giving me. This book is a catastrophic collision of every emotion under the sun. Past trauma, damaged hearts, addiction, forbidden love, secrets, mistakes, lies and betrayal rips through their lives. Told in dual alternating POV, book one in the Next Live Duet will leave you grasping the edge of your seat, tears in your eyes, wanting to IM the author immediately to demand book two, before I die of impatience. Can one actually die of impatience? I feel like I just might. But in all actuality this book is fantastic. While it is full of sensitive content. It is beautifully written, the parallels to real life make it tragically devastating especially given where it has left us at this point. I am also filled with a smidge of hope. Deep in my core I believe in true love and I believe these two are inevitable soul mates. But I think they ( and us readers) will be put through a gut-wrenching journey, the likes of one which we won’t recover from immediately( because these characters have already captured our hearts.)

⭐️Star Rating~⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨~Six, I will probably never emotionally recover from this duet if book one is anything to go by, STARS!!

💭Overall Thoughts~ I am so happy I took a chance on this book and this new to me author as it will most definitely go down as one of my TOP READS of 2022! My only regret is that I am just now discovering this author’s work. I plan to quickly devour as much of her back list ASAP. I will be counting down the days until book two. I’m probably not ready for what Ms. Benson is going to do to my poor heart. But I can’t survive without knowing where we are going from here. I highly recommend EVERYONE take a chance on this author and The Love Of My Next Life. As for me… I will never be the same.

🌶 HEAT~ 🌶🌶🌶 Definitely Hot. Had tension and lots of great “Banter O’Hate.” The buildup was worth the wait. I can’t wait to see the spice level in book 2 since I imagine the them to be older in that book.

🥰 HEA/CLIFFY🧗‍♀️~ HUGE CLIFFHANGER– This book is book ONE of TWO. You will not get a resolution to this couple’s story in this book. You will get a shocker and then an abrupt ending to keep you hanging! Thankfully book two is set to release in October 2022. Until then Happy Reading My Friends!

My friends, FAME is FANTASTICALLY FABULOUS!! It’s MAGICALLY MARVELOUS!! I’m gonna calm down and stop yelling at you in shouty CAPS.

But in all seriousness this book y’all. Molly McAdams once again proves why she is one of my absolute favorite authors. She is a must read everything she writes, plus owns every ebook, and signed paperbacks too. It doesn’t matter the genre or trope I know going in that with this author’s work I’m in for a story that will be profound and positively unforgettable. A story that is sure to weave itself through my mind, heart and soul and leave a little piece of itself behind. A story I felt so deeply that I will think back on it for years to come. As I still do with pretty much all of her books I have read thus far. (I will go to my death bed still feeling Taking Chances)

Trust me when I tell you Fame is a story like no other. Jensen and Mia are two imperfect humans who just happen to be perfect for each other. Bringing you the best by giving you a little taste of everything, this sinful and sexy romance is slap full of secrets, lies and mystery. Not skimping on the angst, steam, banter, tension, and a good ‘ol swoony and southern, Georgia bred country boy to come in and make everything all better (this Georgia girl might be biased but there’s nothing hotter than a GA boy) I promise this book has something for every reader. It will captivate you from paragraph one until the very last sentence. Not just a book but an unputdownable journey to unite two amazingly unique and inspiring characters who against any obstacles that may come between them truly belong together. But what to do when love is inevitable between two people and one is dang near ready to sprint in the opposite direction away from it? Will love bring them together or will Fame tear them apart?

Mia is really a special character. She is one of the most unselfish of heroines I have ever had the pleasure of reading, yet her circumstances broke my heart over and over again. Her strength and dedication to her family was commendable. How could you not fall in love with her story? This amazing woman who sacrificially suffered for those she loved most in the world. It was devastating and inspiring at the same time. The internal conflicts are gut-wrenching. But I was so immersed in this story I really felt her struggle and found myself battling the what would I do in real life?

I think her battles with the life she was forced into and its impact on her character as a person just made me love her more. She was a deeply loving character but as much love as she had for others she didn’t have it for herself. I wanted to be able to jump into the book and just hug her and tell her I see you. You are beautiful and I see you for who you are. I see you for why and not what you have to do. She was existing, getting by and surviving. But she wasn’t living. She wasn’t enjoying her life. Until she met Jensen. He brought life back into her. He made her feel things no one ever had. It put the carefully crafted walls she’d put up to hide her secrets behind at risk of crumbling down around her. But for the first time she began to think she finally found someone who might be worth the risk. But there is still so much he doesn’t know about her. What will happen when the truth comes to light?

“You don’t know what my greatest joy is or the worst moments of my life. You don’t know what I’ve done to survive.”

Jensen is deliciously swoony and without a doubt book HUSBAND material. I say husband because this man is better than a book boyfriend. Boy oh boy was he ever hot and so dreamy too y’all.

He had been burned in the past and that had an impact on him. He certainly wasn’t looking for a relationship, but he was instantly drawn to the beautiful yet emotionally barricaded girl from the third floor of his new office building. Quickly he finds himself unable to resist the need to get to know and win this woman over. He knows it will be no easy feat but not one to give up; he sets out to win her over. He’s just so stinking sweet. He is caring and thoughtful. Successful but humble. Supportive and protective. Loving and kind. Gah! The way he was with her melted me into a puddle of goo y’all! I was a pile of jelly for Jensen. I could go on about him FOREVER!

None of that matters because I hear you in songs. I see you when I close my eyes. I feel you in my veins.”

In closing let me just say this book will tug on your heart strings. It will move you. You will laugh, and cry. You will fan yourself, get frustrated, cry again, and swoon so hard. You will fall so hard for all these characters (old and new). The writing is so engaging you feel like one of the gang, a part of the story. So vividly you feel like you share in the outrage, the excitement, the urge to smack a fool upside the back of his head and tell him to get it together. Mostly I just wanna see everyone get all the goodness life has to offer. But alas, I cannot actually be a part of the story and that is just the mark of a truly talented author, the fact that they make you forget that you aren’t. This author does this to me. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!

Jensen and Mia’s breathtakingly remarkable journey is not one to be missed. It is the final standalone (with crossover characters) in the Secrets in L.A. series and told in dual POV. My Review

What Lovers Do is an amazingly charming and hilariously adorable and sexy, friends to lovers romance between two individuals who are getting a second chance at love. So while it’s not their second chance with each other, it’s definitely a second chance for sure.

Jewel E. Ann is a one-click author for me and once again she proves why that is in this refreshingly unexpected and unforgettable story.

Sophie is such an amazing character. She’s unselfish and caring and when it comes to relationships maybe a bit gullible. She’s so in love with the thought of being in love it has gotten her into quite the pickle many times. It’s why she finds herself currently stuck in this horrible situation she’s in when she meets Shep at the pet store where he works. He’s gorgeous, charming and loves animals. She sure doesn’t need another complication but… he’s just so perfectly cute and the more time she spends with Shep the more she realizes just how much they have in common. How wonderful he is… for a friend that is, obviously. 🙄

Shep is competitive, sexy, funny, loves animals and is super attracted to the adorable and quirky Sophie. He loves to go out, play golf and hang with friends. He really wants to explore this new found friendship with Sophie and spend as much time getting to know her as possible. But the more time he spends the more it seems like she’s hiding something.

This book will have you rolling in laughter. The banter can’t be beat. It will melt your heart as well as your kindle. The combination of all the emotions as well as the humor is a gift of which is so unique to a Jewel E. Ann book. Frustratingly Fantastic, Tantalizingly Torturous, and Heartbreaking as much as was heart-healing, this conclusion to Olly and Frankie’s story was unputdownable, and unforgettable. An unbelievable mix of angst and agony to my heart, but one that I would willingly subject myself to over and over again. The story that started unfolding by dropping little hints from the very beginning of The Boys of Clermont Bay series, showed us that something was always there between Olly and Frankie. Those little nuggets Holly Renee had been planting had me jonesing (and not always so patiently) for their time to tell their story and let me tell y’all. It.Was.So.Worth.The.Wait.

I spent a big portion of this book torn between wanting to climb inside my kindle and smack Olly and Frankie upside the heads and knocking some sense into them-and then the other parts enabling every ounce of restraint I possessed to ensure I didn’t chuck my kindle at the wall out of frustration, because they spent so much time apart.Time that maybe they shouldn’t have had to. If only…

But truly in their times apart they both grew and learned things in their own way. They had different views on what they were and what they could become. They both grew and matured on their own, but in totally different ways. Frankie had realized what she truly deserves in her life and that was the only thing she was going to settle for going forward in her life. Olly finally realized what he needed to do to be the man Frankie deserves and prioritized his life accordingly.

While it was gut wrenching for these two characters as well as it was for me being so invested in their journey, I knew it was essential that they traveled those bumps and turns along the way to get to the place where they were truly meant to be. And that place was PERFECT!!

I can’t say enough about not only this duet but this entire series. If you haven’t started it, there is no better day that TODAY!! If you have been following all along then grab this phenomenal conclusion that was years in the making. Pour you some wine, 🍷 grab a bar of dark chocolate, 🍫 and a box tissues and get ready for an emotionally beautiful read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Review

I am obsessed with anything that Elizabeth O’Roark writes. Devil and the Deep Blue Sea was just what I needed in my life right now. It was the most delicious secret, forbidden, hooking up with your ex boyfriend’s brother while on vacation, romance. The journey to love between this gorgeous rockstar -who’s not got her stuff together and hot doctor, who happens to be the perfect humanitarian and son, is an unforgettably exciting and engaging story.

I loved the entire dynamic between Drew and Joshua and how they were stuck around each other on the trip. Them being forced to be around each other added many layers to the tension brewing between. It gave this gloriously fantastic tale the absolute best banter ever! These characters are so well written. They are beautifully complex and phenomenally intriguing. I love how they are able to balance each other. Drew is broken in so many ways and even though she couldn’t stand judgemental Dr. Joshua at first, it’s apparent that this man is the one who can fix her broken picked apart pieces and build her back up to everything she’s capable of being and more. Joshua is the most loving and caring son. He’s so annoyed by his brother and determined to be the opposite of his father. He doesn’t like what Drew and his brother stand for, although the more time he spends with her he realizes she’s nothing like he thought.

I couldn’t get enough of their bickering and banter back and forth. It makes the story flow absolutely flawlessly. The characters are full of heart, depth and emotions. There is just enough humor, steam, banter, and frustration to keep you obsessed from the second you crack the book until the last word is read, and then I promise you still won’t want to let these characters go. I loved getting some more little nuggets of Tali and Hayes.🥰🥰 I’m totally devoted to any “Devil’s” of Elizabeth O’Roark’s. Five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Flipping Fantastic Stars!!

My Review

This ending was fantastically fabulous y’all!! Though I was not really ready for this series to be over, it couldn’t have ended any better. This last season of episodes was just as packed full of love, sex, drama, angst and frustration as ever! I devoured every single syllable from start to finish. And I was a quick chick!! I couldn’t put it down. We had tested loves, long distance love, love triangles. Semi break ups, and makeups. We had it all. We had all the components of a perfect HEA for some and more non traditional HEA’s for others. It was MAGICAL!

Erin, Jess, Skyler, Cassie, Ashlei, Bear and Adam won me over way back in the beginning. Somewhere along the way Kip, Kade, Brandon and Jarrett and the other secondary characters became just as huge a part of these girl’s stories. I was just as invested in what happens to these dudes.

Now I can say, like college itself, the growth in the characters from the first book to the last was astonishing. I love that it was just like watching/reading these kids go from young college kiddos to full grown mature adults ready to take on the world. It made these characters’ problems and issues believable and relatable, and you were able to easily sympathize with them. I cried so much during this book. I cried for the situations, I cried because I was happy, I cried because I didn’t want to let them go. They were my friends now.
